Kitamura Aki (Watanabe Mayu) and assistant manager, Nishioka Riko (Inamori Izumi), work for Pegasus Bookshop, a bookstore of long standing. These two females have been saved by books as the rise of online bookstores make competition increasingly tougher. For the strong-willed, free spirited 23-year-old Aki, work rather than marriage is her dream, while 40-year-old Riko worked with pride in her job and belatedly realised that she has passed marriageable age. There is a generational gap between them as well as a difference in their circumstances. Aki is well-off girl who joined the company through connections. Riko has been through a lot of hard times and worked her way up. Because of their different personalities and experiences, their approaches to work and love are are not alike and they mix like oil and water.
